Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding
The unicef baby friendly initiative is recommended across UK.  Action for Children East Bradford Cluster is working towards becoming a Unicef baby friendly cluster with all staff trained to offer and signpost families.
We also recognise that there are many benefits of breastfeeding for both the baby and Mother.  Research suggests that breastfed babies reduce chances of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) also known as cot death.  Breastfed babies also are less likely to have colds, chest or ear infections due to breastmilk containing antibodies which help fight these infections.  Mums can benefit too, because the milk is at the right temperature so you can feed your baby as and when required.  It is free and makes life easier.   Benefits for mums are that it can help you lose weight as well as reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.
Breastfeeding peer support is available across the East cluster to support pregnant women to make informed choices of infant feeding.  The service offers mother to mother support to women to initiate and establish breastfeeding and enable continuity of breastfeeding with confident.
Mothers can choose to attend our breastfeeding clinics or self- refer to the one to one home visiting support or telephone calls.  In these clinics mothers also can socialise and share knowledge of breastfeeding and go on to become breastfeeding peer supporters.
